This unit develops an understanding of the function, operation and routine maintenance requirements associated with distributed control systems. It is recommended that An Introduction to Instrument and Control: Process Control Systems and Equipment is completed before undertaking this Training Standard and that Instrument and Control Maintenance Practice: Distributed Control Systems is completed in conjunction with this Training Standard.
Learning Objectives :
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Outline the function and operation of distributed control systems.
- Outline typical signs of fault, damage, wear and corrosion in distributed control systems.
- Describe typical routine maintenance requirements of distributed control systems.
- Equipment – distributed control systems.
- Routine maintenance techniques for distributed control systems.
- Technical information and guidelines.
Teaching methods :
- The course will be delivered by means of classroom lectures and practical workshop exercices.
- Written questions could be supported by oral questions using equipment in the workshop – for example, identifying and naming faults or damage on a piece of equipment and/or describe the sequence of dismantling a piece of equipment. If oral questions are used, a record of the questions, equipment and learner responses must be retained
- Pre & post course tests are performed to measure knowledge acquisition.
