This unit develops an understanding of the function, operation and routine maintenance requirements associated with programmable logic controller systems. It is recommended that An Introduction to Instrument and Control: Process Control Systems and Equipment is completed before undertaking this Training Standard and that Instrument and Control Maintenance Practice: Programmable Logic Controller Systems is completed in conjunction with this Training Standard.
Learning Objectives :
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Outline the function and operation of programmable logic controller systems.
- Outline typical signs of fault, damage, wear and corrosion in programmable logic controller systems.
- Describe typical routine maintenance requirements of programmable logic controller systems.
- Equipment – programmable logic controller systems.
- Routine maintenance techniques for programmable logic controller systems.
- Technical information and guidelines.
Teaching methods :
- The course will be delivered by means of classroom lectures and practical workshop exercices.
- Workshop practice content: Assessments can also be combined with other units where relevant, for example Instrument and Control Maintenance Practice: Programmable Logic Controller Systems.
- Pre & post course tests are performed to measure knowledge acquisition.
